This game was made for the Pizza Jam #9, where there was a long list of themes for the participants to choose from and one the one that seemed more interesting to work with during the jam was "Crime-Stoppers". The game ended up ranking overall in the 8th place out of the 38 entries, as aesthetic wise ranked in the 8th place as well. The game can be played in browser here.
From the beginning we wanted to use sensationalistic headlines in newspaper and wanted to create a clear separation between the levels by using different colours.
The gameplay
In New Crimetopia a new hero who can stop time has emerged. At least all the news outlets call them a hero, but who are they really? A citizen that wants to that wants to better society or just a new criminal mastermind trying to take down the Woofers?
This narrative takes a big part on the gameplay where the player takes the place of the new hero in New Crimetopia, and has to prove the news outlets that you are trying to better society by stopping the crimes committed by the Woofers, a crime organisation.
Despite the game only having two levels it gives an idea of how the level progression could work if the game is expanded. For each level the players need to fix the situation caused by the Woofers, for the first level players need to stop a singular Woofer member, while on the second level the players need to stop two Woofer's members, and so on and on.
In the future, instead each level only having a solution there would be at least one additional way to solve the level. This way the players have more freedom on their actions and have a feeling that their decisions/creativity has an impact on the game.
Click and Drag
The way that the players solve the crime in the New Crimetopia, click and drag the elements from the scenery to stop the members of the Woofers. When the players drag the elements through the screen it is possible to spot some sparkling dots in places where those objects can be slotted in.
TIme constraints
The players have a set amount of time to complete the level. The decision to add a time constraint to each level comes from a narrative aspect from the Hero only being able to spot time for a small amount of time.
Level 1 Progression
In the first level the players need to stop the robbery of Mayor Henrietta's handbag. For this the players need to find a creative way to stop the crime, in this case, using the jumping rope from the exercising cat. Depending if the players complete the level within the timeframe the end screen is different, the headlines of the newspapers change to reflect the actions of the players.

The art
From the beginning there was a need to add visual interest and texture without adding adding clutter or making it feel overcrowded, that's where the decision to utilise transparencies and a multiply brush.
Throughout the game each level has a distinct colour to create a easier separation between them and to be slightly visually different and create more visual interest through the game.
